Inaugurating the Pravasi Bharati Divas, the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that we celebrate and honor the contribution of Overseas Indians to their spiritual and ancestral home. He said that the last year was an eventful year in India, as we concluded the world's largest democratic exercise in May 2009. He said that his government was working on giving the right to exercise their franchise to Persons of Indian Origin by the next general elections.

1947 saw India gained Independence and 1947 also saw the birth in Lucena City of Hon. Alleray, Philippine’s next Ambassador designate to India. 25 years later or in 1972 this gentlemen graduated from the Lyceum of the Philippines with B.S. degree in Bachelor of Arts and Foreign service. Finally he graduated in Political science from UST.

His last Ambassadorial posting was in Caracas, Venezuela from year 2002 to2008, and prior to that in Havana, Caracas from the year 1996 to 1999.

It was attended by lots of dignitaries and Indians of Cebu. The Indian community in the Philippines recently celebrated the activities under NAMASTE PHILIPPINES MABUHAY INDIA, a full year activity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines.
