The recently elected two highest officials of the Philippines have not only send a strong signal to the world that Philippines is now the country of investments, a country that would change the course of the Philippines, and provide a better life to the Filipino people and those staying here, including the strong 80,000 Indians, of which many are holding Filipino citizenship.

President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” C. Aquino III and Vice President Jejomar Cabauatan Binay were both elected in the first ever held automated election in the Philippines.

Interestingly, the Indian community has had great interaction with these elected officials, and many more who are Senators, Representatives, Mayors, Governors and more.

It was in the year 1987 when a donation [for the victims of a natural calamity] was send to then President [late] Corazon Aquino [mother of the present President] that included Cash, donation goods and 2 piggy banks, that were donated by two small kids. President Aquino informed those behind the donation, that when they would be visiting her, to bring along the two kids. This was the start of the personal relationship, and increased great respect that Indians held for the Aquino family.

The Binay family has been very close with some members of the Indian community, partly due to the fact that some Indians are very close with the children of Binay, because of schooling, Rotary and charitable activities.

The Indians have been very active in the business circle in the Philippines. They have truly made Philippines their home. The Indians in neighbouring Asean countries may be richer, yet those born here or those that migrated here are more comfortable here. We call it the Filipino Magic.

The biggest proof is that the Indians in the Philippines number keep on growing, while those in neighbouring countries, with the exception of Indonesia, keep on dwindling.

This year or latest by 2011, the trade between Philippines and India will cross the billion USA dollar mark. In case visa restrictions are resolved, with would then encourage airlines to consider direct flights, and the Indians encouraging more Indians to come and invest, study, retire, partner with the Philippines, we see a great growth.
